The Salt Lake Chamber and United Way of Salt Lake as we recognize the incredible contributions immigrants make every day in Utah at the American Dream Awards Luncheon.

This new award program helps remind us about the positive impact of immigrants and how they have helped shape Utah’s history since the Mormon Pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley in 1847 as refugees fleeing religious persecution. That shared cultural memory formed our values and beliefs today.

American Dream Award Feature: Dr. Dinesh Patel, Managing Director and Founder, Patel Family Investments

Utah venture capitalist, biotechnology pioneer and philanthropist Dr. Dinesh Patel has become known across the country for his business ventures. He is the co-founder of vSpring Capital, a Salt Lake City-based investment firm (now Signal Peak Ventures) which he is currently the founder emeritus. Patel co-founded and led TheraTech, founded and led Ashni Naturaceuticals, and co-founded Salus Therapeutics. Additionally, Patel holds 15 U.S. patents and foreign counterparts. Patel is now the managing director and founder of Patel Family Investments.

In 2006, he was awarded Utah Technology Council Hall of Fame Award and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. In 2009, he received the University of Michigan’s College of Pharmacy’s Alumni Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2013, he was awarded the Willem J. Kolff Lifetime Achievement Award from BioUtah.
