On September 7, 2017 Utah’s business leaders will gather at the Salt Lake Chamber’s 130th Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon. Every year the Chamber recognizes those in the community who have shown exemplary support to further the Chamber’s mission and bolster the local business community.
This year’s 2017 President’s Award for Excellence honoree is Tom Guinney, Gastronomy
Tom Guinney is the president and CEO, as well as sole owner, of Gastronomy. He has spent his entire life in the restaurant business; first in Minneapolis, then in Newport Beach, CA where he learned the trade working alongside his father. In 1980, Guinney moved to Salt Lake City and has since been a partner in Gastronomy, Inc., the parent company of the New Yorker, Market Street Grill and Market Street Oyster Bar restaurants. He now directs the operation of 7 successful restaurants in Salt Lake City and a staff of nearly 400 employees. Gastronomy also operates a full service restaurant in partnership with HMS Host at the Salt Lake International Airport, Terminal 2. It’s probably fair to say that Tom Guinney has served more lobster, clams, shrimp, fresh salmon and halibut than anyone else in Utah.
Additionally, Guinney is a partner in Gastronomy’s real estate ventures, including the Salt Lake Hardware Building, the Ford Motor Building and the Firestone Building. His interests extend well beyond the kitchen, currently serving or having served on the boards of the Guadalupe School, Downtown Alliance, Salt Lake Chamber Board of Governors, Salt Lake County Board of Health, Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Utah Heritage Foundation, to name a few.
