The U.S. economy is big and complex. That didn’t stop the U.S. Census Bureau from boiling it down to this great infographic.
There’s a lot here to digest but a few things jump out.
First, atop the list of growing industries is health care services. There were almost as many jobs created in one sub-sector, home health care services, as there were in the entire area of computer systems design and related services (74,010 compare to 74,435).
Second, online retail sales jumped from less than one percent in 1999 to nearly five percent. That’s a number that will continue to grow as consumers are now equipped with smartphones and more online options.
And third, housing saw an overall increase in the number of homes built jumping from 580,000 in June 2011 to 622,000 in June 2012.
