SALT LAKE CITY — (March 1, 2022) Following a five-year hiatus, The Gateway is thrilled to welcome back the Hibernian Society of Utah’s 42nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Siamsa on Saturday, March 12th. The community is invited to attend the lively, cultural event, which is family friendly. Kicking off at 11:00 a.m., the parade route will begin at 200 South and 600 West, traveling East to Rio Grande. The Siamsa will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the parade routing through it. For the first time in the parade’s history, beer will be sold along the route.
“We returned to The Gateway because it is the best place in Salt Lake City to have a parade,” says Sean Clark, President of the Hibernian Society of Utah. “The ability to have spectators on both the upper and lower levels lends a higher energy, stadium feel. The Gateway also offers the facilities to extend our Siamsa area by utilizing both indoor and outdoor space with the unique ability to run the parade through it, something we’ve never done before. The array of dining venues is another great amenity that adds to the event. We expect this year to be extra fun, merging old traditions with some new ones.”
The Siamsa will be held in and outdoor venues. Traditional Irish fare will be served by Miles Grill in the Grand Hall, accompanied by the John Welsh Memorial Bar. Two stages of entertainment will feature musical guests Pladdohg, Murphy and the Giant, Shanahy, An Rogaire Dubh, The Young Publiners featuring Principal Patrick Lambert of Judge Memorial High School. Irish dance performances will include Scariff, Smith Irish Dance, Harp Irish Dance, and Rinceoiri Don Spraoi.
“As The Gateway continues to build a legacy of hosting premier community festivals and concerts, we are the perfect home for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, one of our most beloved traditions for years,” says Jacklyn Briggs, The Gateway’s Marketing Director. “Our merchants have some tasty Irish specials and offerings planned, and we look forward to accommodating the additional festival element this year.”
