The Buckner Company and WCF Insurance have partnered with Utah Valley University (UVU) to create the first Risk Management program in Utah. This program is a Risk Management Minor through the Woodbury School of Business, that will provide a certificate from UVU and will help individuals prepare for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) credentials. Buckner has pledged $250,000 and WCF has pledged $1,250,000 – totaling $1.5 Million over a five-year period.
Dean of the Woodbury School of Business, Norman Wright, Ph.D., remarked that, “One of the things that we try to do here at UVU, is to work closely with local industry. Every once in while we find some important area that has been neglected by higher education. One area in which that’s occurring throughout the state of Utah, is in the area of risk management and insurance.”
Terry Buckner, President and CEO of The Buckner Company expressed, “We so appreciate the vision and leadership of Utah Valley University in establishing the risk management insurance program within the Woodbury School of Business. This will be a tremendous asset not only for the students of UVU, but for the entire business community. We are honored to be involved with this opportunity.”
This donation will go to fund faculty, student travel to competition, scholarships, and other program costs. Courses will start Fall 2020 and include topics that introduce students to the identification and treatment of risk, global risk exposures, business law for insurance professionals, and commercial liability and property risk management.
The Buckner Company, founded in 1936, is one of the West’s largest regional insurance brokerages, placing over $200,000,000 of insurance premiums through its six offices in Utah, Idaho and Colorado.
