Salt Lake City—May 3, 2018—The Salt Lake City office of CBRE announced that the University of Utah has leased 47,000 square feet of office space in South Jordan. Scheduled to break ground in May, the build-to-suit, two-story office building will house the University of Utah Health Navigation Center which will support doctors, nurses, medical assistants, technicians, and customer service professionals in interfacing with patients via various technological tools. Barb Johnson and Vic Galanis, office specialists in the Salt Lake City office, represented the University of Utah in the transaction.
“We were looking for a way to connect our medical professionals with our administrative professionals to bring more collaboration to the work environment. The new facility at Daybreak will allow us to consolidate our staff and services for the benefit of both our employees and patients,” noted Jonathon Bates, executive director of real estate administration for the University of Utah.
Stacy Silway, director of business operations further added, “Another benefit of bringing all our staff together is the ability to incorporate more wellness activities at the site. The new facility will include an indoor track that encircles the workspace and walking treadmill workstations; it will also connect to an on-site cafeteria offering healthy meals in the adjacent South Jordan Health Center. We are excited to provide a healthy and collaborative work environment for our employees.”
The new Care Navigation Center will sit next to the University of Utah Health South Jordan Health Center which it will connect to via a breezeway. Planned to consist of 47,133 square feet, it will allow for consolidation of clinical and administrative employees from various sites as well as provide a means for growth. The site is located directly in front of the TRAX station, allowing ease of access for both patients and employees. Developed by Daybreak Communities the building is designed to encompass state-of-the-art IT infrastructure as well as backup generators to ensure there is continuity of service for patients.
Barb Johnson, first vice president, noted, “Over the past several years real estate has become incredibly important in the attraction and retention of employees. Tenants have begun considering the impact the built environment has on its personnel and are making a conscious effort to provide amenities and conveniences that encourage a happy and productive workforce.” Vic Galanis, first vice president, added, “These factors have driven the University’s decision to design a custom office space that will allow for both employee interaction and collaboration, as well as provide amenities not offered at their current sites.”
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held before the end of May. The building is expected to be ready for occupancy in the summer of 2019.
