Governor Gary Herbert has appointed Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber to serve on the Utah COVID-19 Community Task Force. The task force is made up of government, civic and business leaders, as well as health professionals, and will be led by Lt. Governor Spencer Cox in its mission to monitor and coordinate collective efforts to protect Utahns from the Coronavirus.

The Chamber will lend its capacity in support of the efforts of Governor Herbert and Lt. Governor Cox, as well as continue to work closely with the U.S. Chamber in Washington, D.C. and coordinate with businesses—large and small—to provide up-to-date information and actionable intelligence. The Chamber will have an online clearinghouse for all businesses to access information and best practices to prepare for the Coronavirus. This clearinghouse is available now on slchamber.com/coronavirus.

What every business must do comes down to a simple formula—the Three P’s: prevent, plan and practice. Most important is clear and constant communication to employees on how to prevent illness. Businesses large and small can be effective by simply posting and communicating vital information, updates, and reminders at work. Businesses can access those informational signs through the web page that links to the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as other national and local resources.

The Chamber web page also provides information on how to create a contingency plan for your business, including options for employees working remotely and building redundancies into your systems and personnel. Businesses are also encouraged to be aware of travel guidance and restrictions and implement best practices for addressing supply chain challenges.

As this is a quickly evolving situation, the Chamber is here to complement the work being done by the federal and state governments, putting emphasis on business leaders, employees, entrepreneurs, and the clients and consumers who work with them.
