On January 9, 2018 the Cybersecurity Leadership Council convened at the Salt Lake Chamber. This group has representatives from state and federal agencies, universities, legal entities, cybersecurity consulting firms, insurance firms, and others.
One key objective of the Council is cross-sector collaboration. This group has committed to a shared vision of a well-fortified business community that is educated about cybersecurity. In order to achieve such a goal, it is important to share information, consolidate when necessary, and unite behind a defined and common purpose. That is why the discussions between, USTAR and Cyalnce or the FBI and USU or Secuvant and MEP Center, or etc., are so important. These conversations build relationships and fuel strategic, holistic planning.
During the meeting Council members split into five groups focused on: economic development, technology innovation, law enforcement, workforce development, and business awareness. Each group conducted a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis on each topic as it relates to cybersecurity. This discussion produced several action items, however the work of the Council has just begun.
The Cybersecurity Leadership Council will continue to offer a platform for experts to convene and collaborate to improve Utah’s security posture.
