Burgers Grilled Right is one of the many businesses that received a Mainstreet Preservation Grant.

Owner Meili Myles shares their story:

“I am the owner of BGR Burgers Grilled Right. We are a gourmet burger restaurant and catering in Sugar House. We are located on 1202 E Wilmington Avenue, Ste 120. What got us started our restaurant in December 2017 was our desire to create a memorable experience for people through our food. The COVID-19 outbreak has impacted in a negative way to our sales and operation. We have seen a decrease in sale from 40% to 70% both to restaurant sale and catering. All of our catering in April and May was cancelled due to the office closures and prohibition on gatherings. That makes us have to reduce hours on most of our staffs and makes it so difficult to pay our bills.

“With the mainstreet preservation grant provided by SL Chamber and Workers Compensation Fund, we were able to put some of ours employees back to their normal hours or not reducing them as much anymore, as well as using the fund towards installing a plexiglass along our POS Counter and take out counter that serves as a barrier between our customers and our guests. We were also using it to get PPE for our floor decals that guide our customers on where to stand while waiting for their turn to order/ wait for their food. We are also using the funds to donate some food to our local healthcare workers here in Sugar House. We also use the fund to buy fabric masks from local seamstress as well as buying portable ones to have in stock at the restaurant for whoever need them (guests or employees)”

“I sincerely thank you again for the grant. It creates a tremendous impact to us to be able to continue operation in the SAFEST way.”

The Mainstreet Preservation Grant, provided by the Salt Lake Chamber’s Utah Job Opportunities Foundation, is made possible thanks to a $500,000 donation from WCF Insurance. The grant funds are used to support rural and/or minority small businesses in Utah that need immediate assistance due to the COVID-19 and before federal stimulus funding is accessed. These grant funds are intended to help businesses in the short-term. To donate or learn more about the Mainstreet Preservation Grant, visit slchamber.com/mainstreet-preservation-grant.
