Cedar Sports is one of the many businesses that received a Mainstreet Preservation Grant. According to co-owner David Whitmore, “At the beginning of April things were looking fairly bleak. The ski season ended a month early and sales were about 90 percent lower than normal. On top of that, several employees count on this job for their livelihood. We received a small SBA loan and had some savings that had been built up through the winter months, but it wasn’t enough to make me feel good about the state of the business or my personal finances. Receiving the Mainstreet Preservation Grant was the thing that made me feel like we are going to make it through the next few months and continue to move forward into next year. Now that we are at the end of April, I am hopeful, happy, and looking forward to next couple of months in large part because of the Mainstreet Preservation Grant.”

The Mainstreet Preservation Grant, provided by the Salt Lake Chamber’s Utah Job Opportunities Foundation, is made possible thanks to a $500,000 donation from WCF Insurance. The grant funds are used to support rural and/or minority small businesses in Utah that need immediate assistance due to the COVID-19 and before federal stimulus funding is accessed. These grant funds are intended to help businesses in the short-term. To donate or learn more about the Mainstreet Preservation Grant, visit slchamber.com/mainstreet-preservation-grant.
