Rollout in Magna included a “pop up” clinic to make COVID-19 vaccines available
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (June 21, 2021) – Utahns 18 and older were encouraged to get vaccinated with the kick-off of a “flash campaign” this morning in Magna City. The goal of the statewide initiative is to achieve a 70% vaccination rate by July 4, Independence Day. The event, hosted by Clark Ivory and Ivory Homes included Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber and Downtown Alliance, Richard Saunders from the Office of the Governor and former Executive Director of the Utah Department of Health, and Magna City Mayor Dan Peay.
Thus far, almost 65% of adults throughout the state have received vaccination against the coronavirus. The goal of vaccinating five percent more between now and July 4th is important to avoiding a fall resurgence and achieving community or herd immunity. “The goal is symbolic, with the 4th of July being the day we celebrate our independence as a nation. We’re getting close, 64.6% as of yesterday and increasing everyday!” said Rich Saudners, executive director of the UDOH. “The vaccine represents how we can end the pandemic. We’ve seen amazing things happen thanks to these vaccines – packed Jazz games, holiday celebrations with friends and family, life returning to what it looked like before the pandemic.”
Outreach began last week with the Salt Lake Chamber and Department of Health sending a letter to the 10,000 businesses who took the “Stay Safe to Stay Open” pledge last fall. In addition, a series of public service announcements were produced featuring business leaders throughout Utah encouraging their fellow employers to encourage and incentive vaccination with their employees. As part of the campaign, the daily “Speaking on Business” program on KSL News Radio will be dedicated to promoting vaccination through July 4.
“The “Bring It Home” campaign is a partnership between the Utah Department of Health and the Salt Lake Chamber, and it includes businesses and local chambers across the state,” said Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber. “We are now reaching out to all businesses, organizations, and community leaders, asking them to join us in this critical effort to put the coronavirus, once and for all, behind us! It’s time to ‘Bring it Home’ and help our state achieve a smart public health goal by Independence Day.”
Ivory Homes hosted the mobile clinic and shared ways in which they have worked to help provide opportunities and incentives to employees to receive the vaccine. Employees on site took advantage of this ease of access to protect themselves and their families by receiving the vaccine.
“We developed the “Take Your Shot” internal campaign to encourage and incentivize all of our employees to get vaccinated,” said Clark Ivory, CEO of Ivory Homes. “This included a gift certificate for lunch for every employee that was vaccinated and drawing for three large prizes. In addition to focusing on our employees, the broader Team Ivory is made up of thousands of subs and suppliers all of which we communicated with heavily over the past year. That’s why we’re thrilled to be hosting a mobile vaccination clinic for many of them today, saying thank you with a food truck and will be taking the “Bring it Home” challenge to do more of these mobile clinics in other locations to get as many of those willing to be vaccinated.”
The City of Magna also encouraged city employees to attend this special event today. The Mayor of Magna spoke in support of vaccine equity and leaders doing their part to make sure all citizens get access to this lifesaving vaccine.
“As the mayor of Magna, this is particularly important to me, and I am grateful that this press conference was held here this morning. In Magna, the spirit of America speaks loudly and with resolve,” said Dan Peay, Mayor of Magna City. “We are proud to be a melting pot raising the next generation of Utahns, and we support the state’s roadmap when it comes to promoting the vaccine and making vaccination accessible to all.”
