SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (January 8, 2020) – Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber and Downtown Alliance, issued the following statement regarding Governor Gary Herbert’s fiscal year 2021 budget proposal:
“The 21st century has been a period of unprecedented growth as Utah has consistently ranked as one of America’s most diverse and highest-performing economies. This has been made possible by the priorities and policies of our governors, state legislators, business and community leaders, as well as the families and individuals who are the true champions of Utah’s economic story.
“As the voice of Utah’s business community, the Salt Lake Chamber applauds the Governor for a budget that reflects priorities shared by the business community, particularly the increase in per-pupil funding for education, focus on air quality improvement efforts, enhancement of our infrastructure through the Utah Unified Transportation Plan, support for solving our housing affordability challenges and investment in addressing mental health issues in our community. We appreciate the collaborative planning and problem-solving approach reflected in the budget, and the way important and well-working priorities are sustained in the new proposal.
“We look forward to working with Governor Herbert and the legislature to promote the priorities reflected and to keep Utah on track for a bright and prosperous future.”
