SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (Dec. 6, 2018) – Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber and Downtown Alliance, issued the following statement regarding Gov. Herbert’s fiscal year 2020 budget proposal:

“Utah’s economy is the envy of the nation and the result of fiscal discipline, smart management and forward-thinking decision-making. Throughout our history, we have continually faced challenges and seized opportunities for progress. As our successes multiplied, so did our growth. And now, as the fastest growing state in the nation, with a population that’s expected to double in the next 50 years, it is critical that we be focused on addressing Utah’s growth in a more holistic way.

“The decisions we make today in how we approach transportation infrastructure, housing affordability, education funding, workforce development, air quality, and tax reform, and our ability to recognize that these issues are interconnected, are imperative to our state’s continued prosperity.

“The Governor’s 2020 budget proposal reflects key steps to addressing many of our growth challenges and we look forward to working with him, and the Legislature, to ensure our state grows smart and continues to flourish.”
