This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business. American United is a small, but robust, full-service credit union with branches throughout Utah. Michelle Thorne, President and CEO, is here to tell us what AMUCU has been doing to navigate the pandemic.
Michelle Thorne
Every employee within our credit union strives to “Help When Others Won’t,” which means we often approve loans for those in the community who have been denied elsewhere. We work hard to provide financial wellness to our members through education, debt consolidation for lower monthly payments, and identifying extra cash to set up an emergency savings fund for their family. Being a small business ourselves, our focus is on making sure other small businesses have access to the same financial solutions that larger businesses benefit from.
When the pandemic hit, we provided Financial Emergency Programs for the community, including very low-interest loans for those who had work interruptions and the flexibility to skip payments on loans. We also helped many local businesses get their Payment Protection Program loans submitted and approved. Our offices and branches have been retrofitted to provide the utmost safety for our employees and members. In uncertain times, we know when you feel confident in your finances, you’re better equipped to deal with all other stressors in your life.
