This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business.
Caring for the vulnerable and less fortunate is part of our fabric as a community. The coronavirus has displaced workers and children from the classroom where many get or receive lunch daily. To plan ahead for reopening schools Smith’s Food and Drug started a new Back to School Kids Lunch Kit campaign.
It will run from now through August 16th to raise funds for those children who may be in need or dealing with food insecurity due to the pandemic. As the school year begins many students will return affected by the pandemic and we need to make sure they do not have to worry about having enough food for school.
The dictum that if we all give a little, we can get a lot applies to the children in our schools. Smiths will accept donations and is asking customers to give $1.50 towards a meal for children in need to match their contribution. These resources will go to provide meals to children when they start school in the fall. They are targeted donations and will go directly to organizations who feed children in local communities.
While we continue to fight the pandemic, let make sure our children are free from hunger. Please visit your local Smith’s Food and Drug to get groceries and to give a $1.50 to support those in need.
