This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business.

As the weather changes into fall the capital city has opened the streets downtown for fun family friendly entertainment. Each weekend from Thursday through Saturday until Oct. 10, the sections of Main Street between Exchange Place and City Creek have closed off traffic to make way for expanded seating and open-air dining.

The expanded hours run from 6-10 pm and also provide art, entertainment and of course great food. Our downtown comprises 133 restaurants and bars plus over 100 local and downtown-only retailers that are open for business. Open Streets is your invitation to enjoy Main Street and downtown at large.

While the pandemic has suppressed downtown commerce, it cannot suppress our spirit and desire for social connection. This temporary expansion of Main Street pedestrian options allows residents and visitors the space to enjoy the social energy of being downtown, outside, and together.

The Open Streets series is a partnership between Salt Lake City, the Downtown Alliance and THE BLOCKS to sustain our downtown restaurants and retailers. Please join us this fall for some evening fun in Salt Lake and give back to these local businesses.
