We would like to congratulate the Salt Lake ChamberWomen’s Business Center for being recognized as Utah’s Outreach Center of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The Women’s Business Center is one of a national network of more than 100 centers.

As one of SBA’s resources, the Women’s Business Center program is designed to assist women in starting and growing small businesses and seeks to “level the playing field” for women entrepreneurs, who still face unique obstacles in the business world.

In 2015, the Women’s Business Center did some impressive things, including help 92 new businesses get started and create 192 jobs.

I could not be more proud of all the wonderful and influential work the Women’s Business Center does for our community. Thank you!

Because it’s Women’s History Month, we are highlighting women in the Utah business community. We’re looking at their personal stories to help explain how they got to where they are today.

In the latest episode ‘Breaking Down Barriers: Preparing Yourself for Success,’ we speak with Linda Wardell, General Manager of City Creek Center.

We discuss her rise to success, what it’s like to work in a male dominated industry and the advice she has for young professionals.

We also look at what it takes to run a successful urban center and consider the future of Salt Lake City, City Creek Center and The Gateway.

The official Salt Lake Chamber podcast, Building Utah, looks into the topics, ideas and people that influence the Beehive state.

Every episode brings a business perspective to what you really care about and no topic is off limits!

Follow Salt Lake Chamber social media and visit: slchamber.com/buildingutah to hear each episode.

Spring is a good time to clean

With the arrival of spring, you should check operating systems for issues that could be hindering performance and energy efficiency.

Also, take some time to clean and inspect machinery. Motors use a substantial amount of energy in production facilities and commercial buildings.

Overheating can result from the accumulation of dirt and grease on motor components causing excessive wear and reducing overall efficiency.

Have your cooling system cleaned and inspected by a professional before the cooling season begins.

Most air conditioning systems are dormant over the winter. Because of this dust and dirt can build up on the components and inside ductwork to adversely affect air quality.

If it’s time to upgrade equipment at your facility, Rocky Mountain Power’s wattsmart Business program offers incentives to cover part of the project cost for energy-efficient upgrades.
