Small Business Saturday celebrates and promotes local small businesses.

If you’re preparing for the spotlight to shine on your business this November 25, be ready to provide the best overall experience by focusing on customer comfort.

Consider these energy efficiency preparations:

  • Since customers may be wearing coats, set your thermostat to 68 degrees or lower so they don’t get too hot.
  • Keep the air moving by making sure vents are open and unblocked
  • To show off merchandise in the best light, install energy-efficient LED lighting. LEDs use less energy and operate cooler to help you save money and could improve your sales.

Join the Salt Lake Chamber as we partner up with United Way and Silicon Slopes for the third annual Startup Santa.

Startup Santa is a statewide children’s book drive where Utah companies compete against one another to see who can donate the most books and support childhood literacy programs for children living in low-income families.

Last year, nearly 100 companies participated, donating over 87,000 books – a value of $437,000.

This year we’re hoping to beat that record.

The state of Utah is pledging its support to help the people of Puerto Rico recover from the devastation left behind after Hurricane Maria.

It’s been more than 50 days since the Hurricane hit, and still more than 70 percent of the island is without power.

A delegation of 40 volunteers, including Lt. Governor Spencer Cox, are in Puerto Rico this week to deliver portable power sources, lights and other supplies to the hurricane-stricken communities.

The state isn’t paying for the trip. Instead Utahns are being asked to donate to Tifie Humanitarian, a Salt Lake City based nonprofit and the umbrella organization over Light up Puerto Rico.

Since volunteers are paying their own travel costs, 100 percent of every donation will go towards supplies.

So far, Light up Puerto Rico has raised $302,000 to help with the efforts.

Donations are still being accepted. If you would like to donate visit Light Up Puerto Rico’s YouCaring page.
