OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University’s Woodbury School of Business is now offering a healthcare management track as part of its Master of Business Administration program.
The new healthcare MBA prepares students to work in public, private, and non-profit health organizations or companies that offer healthcare-related products. The MBA is offered in a one-year, full-time accelerated, or two-year, part-time professional track to meet individual circumstances. Part-time tracks are available at both the Thanksgiving Point and Orem Campuses, full-time only at Orem.
“The MBA curriculum focuses on key business skills with a unique focus on the fastest-growing job area: healthcare,” said Don Capener, associate dean over graduate programs for the Woodbury School of Business. “In the curriculum, faculty with healthcare expertise will address key issues impacting costs, healthcare access, informatics, legal issues, and other healthcare complexities.”
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of medical and health services managers is projected to grow 32% from 2020 to 2030, a rate faster than the average for all occupations. The Bureau website also states that approximately 51,800 openings for medical and health services managers are projected each year, on average, over the decade. The average salary for a medical and health services manager in 2020 was $104,280 per year, or $50.13 per hour.
UVU’s MBA in healthcare administration is based on engaged learning, where students receive real-world experience in planning, directing, consulting, and coordinating the business management activities of healthcare organizations.
