SALT LAKE CITY, UT (March 26, 2018) — This week, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce named all six members of Utah’s congressional delegation as Spirit of Enterprise Award winners for their support of pro-growth, pro-jobs policies during the first session of the 115th Congress.

The U.S. Chamber’s prestigious Spirit of Enterprise Award is given annually to members of Congress based on their votes on critical business legislation as outlined in the Chamber’s How They Voted 2017 scorecard. Members who supported the Chamber’s position on at least 70% of those votes qualify to receive the award.

“Utah has some of the most influential leadership in the country and, once again, our federal delegation has proven to be true ambassadors of the best state for business,” said Lane Beattie, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber. “On behalf of Utah’s business leaders, I express my gratitude for their leadership and support. In the year ahead, we look forward to working with our delegation to advance key priorities including immigration, health and entitlement reform, infrastructure investment and ensuring Utah remains globally competitive.”

During the first session of the 115th Congress, the Chamber scored members on seven Senate votes, including those on tax reform legislation and the confirmation of Supreme Court Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch; and 14 House votes, including votes on tax reform legislation, access to Medicare, and lawsuit abuse. Various votes in support of small businesses were also scored.

Senator Orrin Hatch had an 86% voting record, and Senator Mike Lee had 71%. All of Utah’s members of the House of Representatives had a voting record of 93%. Representative John Curtis, who was sworn in as Utah’s newest member of Congress in November, had a voting record of 100%.

The Salt Lake Chamber plans on presenting the Spirit of Enterprise Awards to Utah’s federal delegation in May. The Chamber will also recognize state legislators with the Business Champion Award on May 16, 2018.
