Virginia Beach, Va. (Aug. 21, 2026) – Chartway Credit Union has once again been recognized in American Banker as one of the 2026 Best Credit Unions to Work For, marking the sixth consecutive year the organization has earned the national distinction. This annual awards program, established by Best Companies Group—a research firm that surveys companies to provide valuable feedback on recruitment and retention—was created to identify, recognize, and honor the best employers based on workplace culture and business influence.
“Our team members are what make Chartway such a great place to work, and this recognition belongs to them,” said Brian Schools, president and CEO of Chartway Credit Union. “Their dedication to our members, communities and each other is what makes achievements like this possible year after year. We’re honored to be named one of the Best Credit Unions to Work For across the country and grateful to every team member who makes Chartway such a special place.”
Credit unions from across the United States entered the two-part survey process to determine Best Credit Unions to Work For. The first part, which accounts for 25% of the total evaluation, consisted of evaluating each nominated credit union’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems, and demographics. The second part, which makes up the remaining 75%, consisted of an employee survey to measure employee experience. The combined scores determined the top credit unions and final rankings across the country.
To be eligible, participating credit unions must employ a minimum of 15 team members and have been in business for at least one year. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process, analyzed the data, and determined the final rankings.
Through the Best Companies Group program, Chartway was also recognized this month as one of the Best Places to Work in Utah for the third consecutive year. Earlier this year, the credit union was also named one of Virginia’s Best Places to Work for the second consecutive year. Chartway serves more than 265,000 members through a growing branch network across Texas, Utah, and southern Virginia.
