Virginia Beach, VA (June 17, 2026) – Chartway Credit Union has been ranked the No. 1 credit union in Virginia and named to the Forbes list of America’s Best-In-State Credit Unions 2026 for the fifth consecutive year. The prestigious, national annual ranking, presented in partnership with Statista, recognizes top-performing credit unions delivering strong member experiences across the country.
This distinction places Chartway among a select group of credit unions consistently recognized for excellence. Nationally, just 32 out of the 246 credit unions ranked this yearhave earned Best-In-State recognition every year from 2022 through 2026, a milestone that underscores sustained performance and member trust.
“Earning this recognition five years in a row in addition to taking the top spot in Virginia this year is an honor we don’t take lightly,” said Brian Schools, president and CEO of Chartway Credit Union. “It speaks to the trust our members place in us every day, and to our team’s commitment to our purpose of helping individuals and families thrive.”
While Chartway operates in Texas, Utah and Virginia, it is one of only two credit unions headquartered in Virginia to achieve this recognition five years running. It is also one of only four credit unions statewide named to the 2026 list.
America’s Best-In-State Credit Unions highlights institutions that excel in delivering trusted financial services and meaningful member experiences at the local level. Rankings are based on an independent survey of 26,000 U.S. consumers nationwide, along with publicly available reviews and ratings. The survey accounts for 80% of each institution’s score, while reviews and ratings account for 20%.
According to Forbes and Statista, institutions are evaluated across key criteria including trust, customer satisfaction, financial advice, digital services, and member service. Rankings reflect overall performance and member sentiment, with top institutions recognized in each state.
Forbes began its Best-In-State rankings in 2018, recognizing banks and credit unions that operate in fewer than 15 states, are not online-only providers, and demonstrate strong community-based financial relationships. The complete 2026 list is available on the Forbes website.
