General David Petraeus, Former CIA Director and Army General, to Keynote the 2025 Utah Economic Outlook & Public Policy Summit

Today, the Salt Lake Chamber and the University of Utah’s Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute announced General David Petraeus to be the keynote speaker at the 2025 Utah Economic Outlook & Public Policy Summit, the state’s premier economic forecasting and public policy event attended by policy, business and academic thought leaders from across the state.

General Petraeus will engage in a thought-provoking fireside chat entitled “Leadership in a Complex World.” General Petraeus will draw from his distinguished military career and both government and private sector leadership roles to highlight the qualities necessary to lead organizations in an era of constant change and uncertainty. This summit provides attendees with the rare opportunity to gain insights from one of the world’s most respected leaders on navigating global complexities and rapid technological advancements.

“During this time of change and uncertainty, the challenges of leadership are greater than ever,” said Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber. “General David Petraeus’ experience will give Summit attendees a greater understanding of developing rare leadership qualities and how to traverse the complexities of leading at this time in history.”

General Petraeus is currently a partner at KKR investment firm and Chairman of the KKR Global Institute, which he established in 2013. Prior to entering the private sector, General Petraeus served as Director for the CIA, where he was known for establishing important Agency digital initiatives and making substantial investments in the Agency’s most important asset – its human capital. In addition to his CIA leadership, General Petraeus spent 37 honorable years serving in the U.S. Army, including six consecutive commands as a general officer.

“Throughout his career, General Petraeus has served his country with distinction and led our men and women in uniform during some of the most challenging times in recent history,” said Natalie Gochnour, director of the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute. “We are honored to have him share his insights and direction with Utah leaders at the 2025 Utah Economic Outlook & Public Policy Summit.”

The Salt Lake Chamber and Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute will host the Utah Economic Outlook & Public Policy Summit at The Grand America Hotel on January 10, 2025. The Summit presents an unrivaled opportunity for attendees to gain insights into the future of Utah’s economy and the business community’s policy priorities for the upcoming legislative session.
