According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Data Center, small businesses make up 99.9% of all U.S. businesses, employing nearly 46% of Americans. Utah continues to stand out for its pro-business climate, supported by strong initiatives and resources that help entrepreneurs start and grow. Each month, the Salt Lake Chamber will highlight a small business in Utah to showcase its economic impact and encourage community support.
Some of the most impactful companies are the ones working behind the scenes to solve challenges many people never see. That’s exactly what LSI has been doing for more than 50 years. Headquartered in Utah, LSI partners with businesses, government agencies and communities to solve complex problems and create meaningful results.
We sat down with LSI President & CEO Sarah Bertagnolli to learn more about the company’s mission and the impact it is making in Utah and across the country. While LSI is known for its expertise in government contracting, Bertagnolli says the company is really a solutions provider.
“We help our clients with their most complex challenges,” she said. Whether it’s helping businesses navigate government contracting or supporting workforce and economic development, LSI’s work is centered on helping others succeed.
For Bertagnolli, the company’s greatest impact isn’t measured by contracts — it’s measured by people. “I think our biggest impact is that we’re supporting real-life missions and real-life people,” she said. A significant amount of LSI’s work supports the U.S. Department of Defense, helping maintain legacy aircraft and strengthen military readiness. While much of that work happens behind the scenes, it plays an important role in supporting the men and women who serve our country.
That same commitment extends into the community. LSI supports veterans, military spouses, military children and nonprofits because, as Bertagnolli shared, success is about more than revenue. “I would hope that they would see us as a trusted partner,” she said.
Bertagnolli also highlighted the importance of recognizing and supporting the service members who protect our country. With Hill Air Force Base serving as the largest single-site employer in Utah, she encouraged Utahns to support military members and families in their communities, whether through small acts of service or simply taking the time to show appreciation.
As a member of the Salt Lake Chamber, LSI also values building relationships with fellow business leaders. “For us, it’s about the community,” Bertagnolli said. “We can advocate for each other, collaborate, create partnerships and help each other out.”

Whether supporting national defense, strengthening businesses or investing in local communities, LSI is proving that the best partnerships are built on trust, service and a commitment to helping others.
