Along with spring flowers, vibrant new art installations are blossoming, including murals, crosswalks, and shop windows.
SALT LAKE CITY — (May 17, 2023) The Gateway has received a spring makeover with a plethora of new art for the public to enjoy and celebrate throughout the spring season. Local artists have transformed outdoor spaces with bright themes, and their works are now on display. See below for more information on these exciting installations.
Folk Flower Crossing
Designed in collaboration with Smock and Roll (@smockandroll), this cheery new street mural, located in the heart of The Gateway at the intersection of 100 South, was inspired by folk motifs and features a bright palette. Visitors will be delighted crossing the street with the pavement adorned with flourishing flowers
Hundreds of colorful ribbons are hanging high in the sky above Restaurant Row. Seeing the dazzling array of streamers as they float and dance in the wind is an immersive experience guaranteed to delight. Color Rain is on display now for a limited time at the south end of The Gateway.
Botanical Bliss Art Shops
Meander down Rio Grande Street to explore the new Botanical Bliss-themed shop windows throughout The Gateway. Eight local artists were selected to create unique window displays celebrating the beauty and diversity of the botanical world. These window installations will be on display through August.
Inspiration Wall (coming soon)
St. George, Utah artist Tiffany Dewitt’s mission for the new Inspire Wall was to demonstrate that everyone makes an impact, whether big or small. Appropriately located at The Olympic Plaza, this interactive installation is a vehicle for people to share who or what inspires them. “Whether a celebrity, historical figure, or a family member, I wanted to encourage visitors to The Gateway to honor those who mean so much to them by writing their name and sharing the story or significance,” says Dewitt, who has painted more than 30 murals across Utah, Arizona, and Nevada. “I hope people will also share their stories from here across social media, so we can inspire one another to make a positive impact.”
Dream Portal (coming soon)
Drawing inspiration from The Gateway itself as a place to “access” or “enter” a new space, artist Laura Hendricks used the stairs as her canvas. The interactive “Dream Portal” mural encourages people to get up close and personal; Sit, walk, and stand on this innovative work of art. Hendricks specializes in playing with perspective to create captivating scenes that open to another dreamy dimension. This new eye-catching mural located on the staircase off 400 West on the south end of the center will serve as a new landmark for anyone entering The Gateway.
