This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. The Blocks celebrates Salt Lake City’s creative spirit by transforming underutilized spaces into vibrant destinations. This summer, that includes a new community gathering space on Main Street. Director of The Blocks, Lucas Horns, shares what’s happening downtown this season.
Lucas Horns:
This summer, a once-empty corner of Main Street comes alive with the Art Garten, a free outdoor pop-up at 150 South Main every Thursday and Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., now until September. Enjoy local artists, live music and a creative space unlike any other downtown.
Art Garten is just the beginning. Just steps away, experience Sonder S-L-C, Kelli Freshman’s immersive photography exhibit on the Vasilios Priskos Walkway. Every Saturday, the Downtown Farmers Market fills Pioneer Park with fresh produce, local makers and morning energy, while the Twilight Concert Series brings major acts to the Gallivan Center.
At the Eccles Theater, Alicia Keys’ Tony-winning musical Hell’s Kitchen takes the stage. Add in more than 200 bars and restaurants, and there’s something for everyone downtown. This is the season downtown shines brightest. Just wander downtown to discover your fun.
Derek Miller:
By turning empty spaces into creative ones, The Blocks is proving that art is good for business and for downtown. To plan your visit to the Art Garten and beyond, go to TheBlocksSLC.com. I’m Derek Miller, with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business.
