Speaking on Business: Utah Film Commission

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Founded in 1974, the Utah Film Commission promotes the entire state as a destination for film, television and commercial production while supporting the growth of local talent, crews and the broader industry. Director of the Utah Film Commission, Virginia Pearce, joins us with more.

Virginia Pearce:

At the Utah Film Commission, we promote the state as a premiere destination for production and support our local film industry with incentives and resources. For over a century, Utah has served as the backdrop for iconic films, TV shows and commercials, and the film industry continues to thrive today.

We had a milestone year in 2025 with film production generating over 136 million dollars in state, translating into more than 2,600 direct jobs for Utahns and millions spent in local businesses around the state. 39 percent of travelers say films or TV shows influenced their visit to Utah, generating about 600 million dollars annually.

That’s why we launched the Utah Film Trail where film lovers can discover the real-world locations featured in some of their favorite movies and TV shows. We focus on building a strong creative economy in Utah that inspires the next generation of artists and audiences.

Derek Miller:

By bringing productions to Utah, the Film Commission boosts the economy and tourism while supporting and training local talent to grow a skilled, vibrant creative workforce. Learn more at film.utah.gov. I’m Derek Miller, with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business.
