July 22, 2026 – Salt Lake City, Utah – As healthcare occupations are projected to generate approximately 1.9 million openings annually over the next decade, healthcare organizations in Utah and across the nation continue to seek qualified professionals to fill critical workforce needs. University of Utah Professional Education is helping meet that demand through flexible medical and dental assistant training programs designed for working adults and career changers.
Developed in partnership with University of Utah Health and the University of Utah School of Dentistry, these programs provide learners with access to university-backed training and direct exposure to healthcare environments, helping bridge the gap between education and employment.
Clinical Medical Assistant Program – As demand for medical assistants continues to grow, with employment projected to increase 12% from 2024 to 2034 and approximately 112,300 openings expected annually, the Clinical Medical Assistant Program prepares students for careers in clinics, physician offices, and other healthcare settings. The program combines self-paced online learning, monthly in-person skills labs, and a 160-hour externship experience. Students receive training in vital signs, EKGs, blood draws, and other clinical procedures while preparing for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential.

Dental Assistant Training Program – The Dental Assistant Training Program combines online learning, hands-on workshops, and a 90-hour externship coordinated through the University of Utah School of Dentistry. Students gain experience with modern dental technologies, including digital scanning and 3D imaging, while preparing for careers in dental care in approximately 14 to 16 weeks.
Employment of dental assistants is projected to grow 6% from 2024 to 2034, with approximately 52,900 openings projected annually nationwide.
