3 Questions with Nothing Bundt Cakes Salt Lake City, Opportunity Award Honoree

At the 2025 Annual Meeting, the Salt Lake Chamber will honor individuals and organizations whose dedication has strengthened both the Chamber’s mission and the community. We’re proud to recognize Nothing Bundt Cakes Salt Lake City with this year’s Opportunity Award, which honors a small business in Utah.

Known for combining the warmth of nostalgia with a fresh, modern approach, Nothing Bundt Cakes Salt Lake City handcrafts every cake with the finest ingredients – real eggs, butter and cream cheese. Their mission goes beyond baking: it’s about creating moments of joy and celebration, whether through blissful Bundtlets, showstopping decorated cakes or everything in between.

To learn more about their journey, we asked Owners Brad and Fawn Berrett to share their story and reflections as small business owners.

What inspired you to bring Nothing Bundt Cakes to this community, and what has that journey looked like as a small business?

It all started when I received a Nothing Bundt Cake as a gift from a friend. The quality stood out — it was so much better than other store-bought cakes — and it quickly became a product we believed in. When my husband, Brad, retired, we thought it would be meaningful to start a small business together.

With encouragement from Brad’s niece and her husband, who were familiar with the brand, we opened our first bakery in West Bountiful. A few years later, we were given the chance to open a location in Salt Lake City – which was especially meaningful. Brad grew up in the valley, and I attended the University of Utah. Salt Lake is also where we dated and were married, so bringing our business here felt like coming home.

We opened our Salt Lake bakery in January 2023, and it has been an incredible journey. Nothing Bundt Cakes is about bringing joy to people and this business has allowed us to make genuine connections, support local causes and give back to a community we truly love.

What advice would you give to other small businesses in Utah?

Get involved in your community and build genuine connections. Make a difference and give back whenever you can. Communities support us in so many ways, and small business ownership offers the opportunity to make a positive impact on others. Success comes from hard work, supporting your employees, engaging with local charities and doing something you love.

Looking ahead, what are your hopes and goals for the next chapter of Nothing Bundt Cakes, and how will being involved with the Salt Lake Chamber help you achieve those goals?

Our goal is to grow our business and increase awareness of our cakes in the community — research shows less than 30% of people have tried them, and we know once they do, they’ll want more.

Being involved with the Salt Lake Chamber has provided a valuable opportunity to connect with other business owners and engage more deeply with the community. The Chamber has been incredibly supportive, offering resources and a welcoming network that helps us expand our reach and continue making a positive impact locally.
