Adventure Meets Community at Momentum Indoor Climbing

According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Data Center, small businesses make up 99.9% of all U.S. businesses, employing nearly 46% of Americans. Utah continues to stand out for its pro-business climate, supported by strong initiatives and resources that help entrepreneurs start and grow. Each month, the Salt Lake Chamber will highlight a small business in Utah to showcase its economic impact and encourage community support.

Founded 20 years ago by three local climbers, Momentum Indoor Climbing has grown into one of Utah’s most popular climbing destinations, bringing people together through a shared love of climbing, training and yoga. What began as a passion project has evolved into a world-class climbing, fitness and yoga experience with multiple locations in Millcreek, Sandy, Lehi and now Trolley Square in Salt Lake City.

Opened last year, Momentum at Trolley Square is a 7,600-square-foot training gym that offers a unique experience for the climbing community. The micro-gym features dedicated bouldering, cardio and weight training areas, along with recovery amenities including a cold plunge and sauna, creating a more intimate and accessible space for climbers.

Reflecting on the opening, General Manager Autumn Mann said, “Trolley Square has been a dream project for Momentum for many years. As a cultural and historic hub in Salt Lake City, it represents exactly the kind of place we want to be part of — one with deep roots, character and a strong sense of community.” She added, “With the support of Taymour Semnani and the Trolley Square management team, we were finally able to bring that vision to life through our first-ever micro-gym concept. This scaled format allows us to reach neighborhoods where our larger gym models wouldn’t be possible.”

Beyond climbing, Momentum actively engages with its surrounding community. The gym recently partnered with Deseret Edge Brewery, a longtime Trolley Square and Utah staple, to create a collaborative beer with proceeds benefiting the Salt Lake Climbers Alliance, a local nonprofit.

Momentum strives to offer more than a place to climb. “Our goal is for people to feel something deeper,” Mann said. “We want Momentum to feel like a second home — a place of genuine belonging.”

Mann also shared that Momentum joined the Salt Lake Chamber to build stronger relationships with the diverse businesses, organizations and leaders that help make Salt Lake City such a vibrant place to live.
