Children’s Center Utah Helps Children, Families Struggling with Mental Health Issues

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — The Children’s Center Utah has helped children and families struggling with mental health issues, behavioral problems, and trauma for years.

Melissa Freitag is the Senior Clinical Director at the center.

“Kids are so amazing and kindhearted,” she said. “We would like to think that everything is always going so well for them, and they are protected and loved, but when there is trauma, when there is a mental health concern or a behavioral challenge, that kiddo could be struggling and we are here to say we want to help, we are here for the child and the family, there is help out there for you.”

President and CEO Rebecca Dutson said, “The Children’s Center Utah provides comprehensive mental health care to enhance the emotional well-being of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and their families. We embrace differences and create an environment where everyone feels safe and respected. We recognize that bringing a young child to The Children’s Center Utah for treatment is a very personal and challenging decision.”

This is how one mother described her experience: “He was about 2 years old, and to be honest, I bawled my eyes out the day I dropped him off. I thought I would never see him again. I thought I was losing my baby. It turned out to be the best thing that ever happened. Now, we have so much understanding and hope.”

Rebecca said, “Pick up the phone, and we will help you work through all your feelings about what might be happening with your child and what might be happening with your relationship with your child.”
