On August 8, 2024, the Women’s Business Center of Utah (WBCUtah) honored Malavika Deo, Owner of Deolicious LLC & Spice Symphony, as a 2024 Entrepreneur of the Year. The award recognizes a WBCUtah client who has had measurable success in their business, as evidenced by frequent utilization of WBCUtah services, a completed business plan and growth in either customer base or revenue.
“Malavika Deo is the embodiment of the entrepreneurial spirit. We have watched her blossom into a dynamic business owner, consistently elevating her skills.,” said WBCUtah State Director Ann Marie Wallace. “Her unwavering passion, innovation, and dedication make her an exceptional role model. We are honored to recognize her extraordinary commitment with the Entrepreneur of the Year award. Malavika’s success is a testament to the power of Utah women business owners and the impact of WBCUtah‘s support.”
Deo has always had a passion for cooking traditional Indian food. Her journey from being a mother to an entrepreneur has been a slow and long one, but she chose to persist while handling family challenges. In 2018, Deo learned about WBCUtah while attending the Salt Lake Chamber Holiday Open House, and since then, WBCUtah has been part of her journey. What started as a hobby of making handcrafted Indian regional spice blends to make Indian cooking at home easy for friends and family soon became a business and opened doors for a meal prep business.
“With WBCUtah’s constant support and encouragement, Deolicious LLC has grown immensely, and we are now ready to hire our first employee to meet that growth,” said Deo. “This award is truly humbling. It is an honor to be included in such an extraordinary group of entrepreneurial businesswomen.”
In 2019, Deolicious LLC, based in Holladay, Utah, became a registered business. In 2021, the DBA ‘Spice Symphony,’ a spice blend brand, was added to differentiate between the meal prep and spice business. Currently, Spice Symphony spice blends are sold online. Additionally, Deo plans to work on educating cooking enthusiasts about spice blends created without the use of any preservatives or additives such as salt, sugar or color.
The award was presented at the WBCUtah Women in Business Summer Social at Cactus & Tropicals. The event helps support WBCUtah programming, events and services. Sponsors of the event included Cyprus credit Union and Visit Park City.
