President’s Message: The Business Case for Civic Involvement

As we approach an important election, I want to call attention to the critical role of civic engagement. Our participation in the democratic process goes beyond simply voting — it’s about being informed, involved and active in shaping the policies that impact our businesses, communities and state. Our choices today will determine our economic direction and set the tone for our future prosperity.

The Salt Lake Chamber is deeply committed to being the voice of Utah’s business community, advocating for policies that strengthen our economy and foster job growth. Our work in government affairs is a cornerstone of our mission, recognizing the pivotal role of the public and private sectors and policymakers is crucial in navigating complex challenges and seizing opportunities. Whether it’s our policy priorities like housing affordability, education and workforce development, tax structure or the regulatory landscape, we strive to be a proactive and effective advocate on behalf of our members.

In light of this, we want to highlight our Government Affairs Boot Camp, an intensive two-day boot camp designed for new and experienced government affairs professionals, company executives and public policy advocates to learn how to improve their effectiveness and understanding of advocacy in the state of Utah. Attendees will graduate with a Certificate of Government Affairs from the Salt Lake Chamber and will gain a greater understanding of lobbying. Our goal is to empower you to be a more effective advocate for your business and the broader community. The Government Affairs Boot Camp will take place on October 18 & 25, 2024, at the Utah State Capitol and Chamber Offices. Register to attend here

Civic engagement doesn’t stop at casting a ballot. It includes advocating for policies that foster a competitive business environment, reaching out to elected officials and staying informed about legislative developments at both the state and federal levels.

As business leaders, we have a unique opportunity to drive meaningful change. I encourage you to get involved and ensure your voice is heard during this election cycle. Together, we can shape a future of continued growth and prosperity for Utah.
