This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. For more than 60 years, Peter Prier & Sons Violins has been part of Utah’s music community. The Salt Lake City shop helps musicians find, maintain and appreciate string instruments through craftsmanship, expertise and a deep connection to violin making. Owner, Paul Prier, joins us with more.
Paul Prier:
In 1960, a 19-year-old German immigrant moved to Salt Lake City with a violin and a set of tools. He had recently graduated from the Bavarian School of Violin Making and took a position at a local music store. Soon after, he opened his own violin shop on 2nd South, Prier Music Company, and then, Peter Prier Violins.
In 1972, Prier founded the Violin Making School of America, drawing students from all over the world and making Salt Lake City a world-class center for string instruments. After 65 years, Peter Prier & Sons Violins remains the preeminent curator and restorer of quality violins, violas and cellos, in Salt Lake City.
Serving the beginner to the soloist, we strive for excellence, old world tradition, and service for all those who love and make music. I’m Paul Prier, second generation owner. Feel free to come visit or contact us for information on tours and business hours.
