As a nonprofit and program of the Salt Lake Chamber Foundation, Utah Community Builders recognizes an organization each month that is making a meaningful impact in the community. This initiative aligns with their mission to activate the Utah business community to address pressing community issues that strengthen Utah’s workforce.
One Kind Act a Day has been making a meaningful impact in the community over the last three years by encouraging people to perform simple, daily acts of kindness. The organization partners with cities, businesses and schools to share its message and inspire collective change.
Senior Advisor Curtis Bennett emphasized the importance of working with schools, saying, “Schools are vibrant hubs of connection, where children embrace kindness naturally and enthusiastically. Their genuine actions often teach us the most, which is why we prioritize working with schools.”
Launched in April 2022, One Kind Act a Day was founded by Khosrow Semnani to explore what might happen if people deliberately chose to be kind each day. What followed was the realization that kindness creates a ripple effect — what Bennett calls “kindness to the power of infinity.”
“You never truly know what the end result will be,” Bennett said. “An act of kindness — whether from yesterday, last month or even years ago — may still be creating a ripple effect that continues today.”
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, One Kind Act a Day exists solely to spread kindness. It accepts no outside donations, with Semnani serving as the sole benefactor. This structure ensures the initiative stays true to its core mission.
“People participate for the sole purpose of kindness,” Bennett said. “We’ve come to understand that authentic kindness breeds authentic kindness. We don’t just see it — we live it and pass it on.”
To get involved, visit thepowerofkind.org and take the Pledge of Kindness. Once signed up, participants receive inspiring quotes and suggestions every Monday and Friday to help spread kindness in everyday ways.
“One of the most meaningful things a person can do,” Bennett added, “is ask, ‘Who can I influence today?’ Whether it’s a handwritten note, a phone call, a text or simply holding a door open — even the smallest gesture can leave a lasting impact.”
