According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, small businesses make up 99.9% of all U.S. businesses. What’s more, Utah has been credited as the most pro-small business state in America, thanks to our state’s pro-business initiatives and support systems. Each month, the Salt Lake Chamber will highlight a small business in Utah to emphasize its importance in our economy and encourage local support.
This month’s highlight is making a real difference in lives worldwide. Founded in 2015, The Roxbury Institute is a leader in Lipedema treatment in the U.S., with locations in Los Angeles, Tucson and Salt Lake City. Specializing in diagnosing and treating Lipedema through its Advanced Lipedema Treatment (ALT) program, the Institute offers both surgical and non-surgical solutions.
So what is Lipedema? This chronic, often misdiagnosed condition causes an abnormal fat buildup, primarily in the legs, hips and arms, affecting nearly 10% of women. It can lead to pain, swelling and mobility issues. Many are mistakenly told their condition is obesity or lymphedema, leaving them without proper treatment — or hope.
Dr. David Amron, the Institute’s founder, has been practicing medicine for over 30 years and is a pioneer in Lipedema treatment. More than just a medical facility, The Roxbury Institute is a place of hope for those misdiagnosed or dismissed by the healthcare system. “Seeing the impact on my patients and their families has deepened my passion for this work,” he shares. “We provide compassionate care and advanced treatment, changing lives and giving patients the answers they’ve long sought.”
Beyond surgery, The Roxbury Institute focuses on education, early diagnosis and prevention strategies to help patients manage their condition. “Our team is dedicated to creating a place of trust for those who often feel overlooked,” says Dr. Amron.
In addition to advancing surgical techniques and therapies, the Institute is at the forefront of Lipedema research led by Dr. Karen Herbst, who is also working to increase awareness among physicians and healthcare professionals. “We’re working to educate the medical community so more doctors can diagnose Lipedema earlier,” Dr. Amron explains.
As a Salt Lake Chamber member, The Roxbury Institute values its role in Utah’s business community. “The Chamber helps us build connections and spread awareness, ensuring more people get the care they need,” Dr. Amron says.
