The Salt Lake Chamber, in partnership with the University of Utah’s Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, has released the August 2025 Roadmap to Prosperity Economic Dashboard to inform business leaders’ understanding of Utah’s economy. This tool prioritizes key data on the state’s economic outlook and actionable context for decision-makers.
“Utah’s economic resilience stands above national trends yet again,” said Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber. “Businesses are doing exactly what they need to do to prepare for headwinds created by national policies and global events, and the positive labor market growth trends point toward economic strength in the near term. Record-setting passenger numbers at the airport prove that people want to be here. Heading into the fourth quarter, it is critical that business leaders continue to proactively take steps to address challenges that will come.”
Three essential insights from the August 2025 Roadmap to Prosperity Dashboard include:
- Utah’s July employment growth ranks 3rd highest among states. Current estimates indicate Utah’s overall labor market continues to flourish despite national employment growth moderating and certain industries declining. This growth continues the recent trend of Utah employment growth outpacing national growth.
- July sets a new post-pandemic passenger record at the Salt Lake City International Airport. Despite signs of slowing tourism demand nationally, the Salt Lake City Airport served more passengers in July than any other month post-pandemic. This statistic follows several recent accolades for the airport, including best airport in the U.S.
- Utah consumer sentiment remains relatively stable while U.S. sentiment declines 5.7%. Consistent with longer term trends, Utahns continue to feel better about the economy than Americans overall. Utah sentiment remained stable, but U.S. sentiment declined nearly 6% in August.
The Dashboard is updated monthly, providing essential insights, tracking timely and leading measures and sharing pertinent indicators. This provides leaders with critical and timely information to make informed decisions.
“Utah’s economy remains resilient, despite uneven economic indicators at the national level,” said Natalie Gochnour, director of the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute. “High employment growth, record-breaking airport traffic and relatively stable consumer sentiment are all reasons for cautious optimism, especially when compared to the national sentiment decline of nearly 6% in August.”
