SALT LAKE CITY — (February 28, 2023) The Hibernian Society of Utah will paint The Gateway green with the 46th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Siamsa on Saturday, March 11. The highly anticipated cultural event kicks off with the parade at 11:00 a.m. The route will begin at 200 South and 600 West, traveling East to Rio Grande. The Siamsa Celtic celebration will take place in the Olympic Plaza with live entertainment and vendors, as well as inside 16 North Rio Grande located behind the stage until 5:00 p.m. The indoor space will feature traditional food as well as a second performance stage. The Mickey Gallivan Memorial Bar, located outside in the Olympic Plaza, will provide adult libations to those 21 and over. The parade and celebration are free and family friendly.
“Last year’s return to The Gateway was a tremendous success with ample indoor and outdoor space for a multitude of vendor booths and live performances,” says Sean Clark, President of the Hibernian Society of Utah. “It’s a festive atmosphere with spectators able to view the parade from both upper and lower levels. New this year, Flanker Kitchen + Sporting Club with host a lively after party, and we encourage people to stay for that.”
Guests can take delight in traditional Irish food served during the Siamsa celebration while enjoying dance and music performances, and items from crafts vendors.
“We are excited to welcome back crowds for one of the city’s favorite cultural events,” says Jacklyn Briggs, The Gateway’s Marketing Director. “This parade and festival is always one of the most highly anticipated of the year and a great kick-off to event season here at The Gateway. In addition to the parade and Siamsa, many merchants at The Gateway will offer Irish food and drink specials.”
The two stages will feature performances by the following local musicians and Irish dance schools.
Musicians: Pladdohg, Murphy and the Giant, Shanahy, An Rogaire Dubh, The Young Publiners featuring Principal Patrick Lambert of Judge Memorial High School
Dance: Scariff, Smith Irish Dance, Harp Irish Dance, and Rinceoiri Don Spraoi
Closing Ceremony: The Parting Glass at 5 PM. Brush up on your lyrics and help us sing it out!
Flanker Kitchen + Sporting Club’s official “after party” will feature innovative take on Irish classics like corned beef tacos and Guinness battered pretzels. An Irish band will perform as well.
