Celebrating 30 Years of Movement Inspired by Salt Lake Running Company (SLRC)

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, small businesses make up 99.9% of all U.S. businesses. What’s more, Utah has been credited as the most pro-small business state in America, thanks to our state’s pro-business initiatives and support systems. Each month, the Salt Lake Chamber will highlight a small business in Utah to emphasize its importance in our economy and encourage local support.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Salt Lake Running Company (SLRC) has been serving the Salt Lake area with locations in Salt Lake City, Foothill Village, Sandy and Centerville, offering a variety of high-quality running shoes, apparel and accessories. More than just a store, SLRC has built a reputation as a hub for the running community, welcoming athletes of all levels and inspiring movement in every form.

Owners Guy and Debbie Perry turned their passion for running and coaching into a business after Guy saw a need for expert guidance and quality gear. Their “Movement Inspired” philosophy extends beyond running — whether walking, hiking, training or simply looking for comfortable shoes, SLRC is committed to helping people move in a way that works for them. “If you have questions, we have answers,” Guy says. “We are here to inspire our community to move and to support them in that movement.”

SLRC has also prioritized building a strong company culture and hiring individuals who share their mission of encouraging movement. “Much like cross country, we work as a team toward a shared goal,” Guy explains. Their dedication extends beyond retail, hosting free seminars, demo runs and events for all levels, as well as funding a grant program supporting movement-focused organizations. “We’re just trying to do what we can,” Debbie adds. “We love our community and want to give back whenever possible.”

As small business owners, Guy and Debbie understand the challenges that come with balancing multiple responsibilities. Their involvement with the Salt Lake Chamber has provided valuable support, allowing them to focus on their mission while knowing they have advocacy and resources backing them.

“By being members of the Salt Lake Chamber, we are able to offload some of the many hats you wear as a small business,” Guy explains. “The Chamber advocates on our behalf, lobbying in some situations and continues to help preserve the opportunity to live the American Dream.”

For three decades, SLRC has helped people move with confidence. Whether running, walking, hiking or staying active in any way, their team is ready to support every step of the journey. Visit the Salt Lake Running Company website here to learn more.
