Ensign College Reports Strong Enrollment Growth, Emphasizing Affordability and Career Preparation

Ensign College, a private institution owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has reported a substantial increase in enrollment for the Fall 2024 semester. This marks six consecutive semesters of enrollment growth for the college, a trend separating the college from the stagnant or even declining enrollment at many Utah schools over the same period.

Key enrollment highlights for students served by the Salt Lake City campus include:

  • Enrollment increased by 4.5%
  • Domestic students come from 15 Utah counties and 37 U.S. states.
  • 44% of students are international and represent 76 countries.
  • Ensign’s student population is 35% first generation.
  • 60% of students are non-traditional (24 or older).
  • The average degree-specific class size is 15 students.

“Our focus is preparing students for the workforce of today and tomorrow,” said President Bruce C. Kusch. “We only teach skills that lead to jobs and we do it in a spiritually-nourishing environment.”

In addition to campus-based students, Ensign College serves and increasing number of students online through its partnership with BYU-Pathway Worldwide. Over 5,700 students, from around the world, are enrolled in Ensign College degrees and certificate programs reflecting a 38% increase.

“Our enrollment growth is not just about attracting new students, but also about retaining and supporting our existing ones,” remarked Guy Hollingsworth, Vice President of College and Student Services. “We believe in personalized support. Our retention efforts are focused on understanding each student’s unique needs and providing tailored resources to help them succeed.”  Ensign College has invested in personnel, technology, and refined processes to assist current students in persisting and progressing toward a certificate or degree. “We want to see every student leave with a credential, qualified and prepared for new or better employment,” said Hollingsworth. Ensign College continues to serve students with its unique approach to teaching and learning; affordable, in-demand certificates and degrees; nurturing faith-based environment; flexible and efficient program options; skills-based classrooms and curriculum; personal connections and support.
