Llama Butterfly Brings Peruvian Craftsmanship to Salt Lake City

Natural fibers and family tradition bringing Peruvian heritage to Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Located at City Creek Center, Llama Butterfly is a Peruvian-inspired boutique that shares the beauty of Peruvian cultural heritage through natural fibers, handcrafted artistry, earthy color palettes and nature-inspired design.

Founded by Patricia Smith in 2022, Llama Butterfly grew from a dream to support children in Peru into a boutique where craftsmanship, culture and community meet. While the brand’s first creative expression began with Patricia’s watercolor florals and butterflies, today Llama Butterfly has grown into a broader celebration of Peruvian heritage through alpaca, natural fibers, artisan techniques and meaningful design.

The boutique offers apparel, accessories, jewelry, gifts, and statement pieces thoughtfully developed with artisan partners in Peru. Its collections are inspired by the richness of Peruvian culture, from the Andes and Inca traditions of natural fibers, alpaca, and mountain life to the Amazon jungle, flowers, birds, sunshine, butterflies and the natural beauty found throughout Peru.

Llama Butterfly’s color story is rooted in both natural elegance and Peruvian expression. Soft tones such as white, ivory, beige, brown and alpaca’s natural shades are balanced with thoughtful accents of warm reds, oranges, florals and nature-inspired details. Together, these colors create a boutique experience that feels grounded, timeless, connected to nature and rooted in Peruvian cultural storytelling.

In Peruvian heritage, natural fibers have long been connected to daily life, identity, and care. Alpaca and other natural materials are valued not only for their softness and warmth, but also for their durability, comfort and connection to the land. Today, natural fibers are especially meaningful as many customers look for quality pieces that feel good, last long and offer a more thoughtful alternative to fast fashion.

“Llama Butterfly was created to share Peruvian heritage in a way that feels warm, meaningful, and personal,” said Patricia Smith, founder and owner of Llama Butterfly. “In many cultures, handmade work is one of the most beautiful expressions of love. In Peruvian tradition, weaving, hand-embroidery and detailed handwork represent patience, skill, family and care passed from generation to generation.”

Patricia’s appreciation for handmade work began early. When she was in kindergarten, her mother made her a traditional Andean costume from Peru by hand, including an artisanal skirt, jacket and hat. With creativity and care, her mother transformed a small bucket into a beautifully decorated hat that looked like a refined traditional Peruvian hat from the south. Wearing the outfit made Patricia feel special and helped her understand handmade work as more than art — as cultural expression, creativity, quality, dedication and love.

Today, that family connection continues at Llama Butterfly. Patricia’s mother collaborates on special details for the boutique, including decorated fluffy alpaca fur animal outfits and hand- embroidered appliqué jean jackets.

“When I think about handmade work, I think about the care behind every detail,” Smith said. “Today, I see that same care in our artisans and team in Peru — in the quality, teamwork, skill and deep dedication behind every process. That is part of what I want to share through Llama Butterfly.”

Patricia’s original inspiration was to create a nonprofit to support children in need, and that heart for service continues to guide the brand’s purpose.

“I believe our hands have the power to do extraordinary things,” Smith said. “Through handmade work, our hands can create beautiful products, preserve culture and connect people across generations. But they can also serve, uplift and help communities. That belief is part of my original dream to support children in need, and it continues to guide the heart of Llama Butterfly.”
