President’s Message: The Spirit of Olympics is Alive and Well in Utah

The Paris 2024 Olympic & Paralympic Summer Games are well underway, and attending the opening ceremony and events as part of the delegation from Utah has been a privilege. The Olympics not only celebrate the physical, mental and emotional stamina of athletes worldwide, but also demonstrate the power of unity and global collaboration. As I sat among leaders from around the world, I was reminded of the importance of fostering connections and building relationships, learning from others and sharing insights. The atmosphere was a true reflection of the human spirit and the shared pursuit of excellence.

Anticipation and excitement from athletes and spectators alike filled the city. Watching athletes from all over the globe proudly wave their nation’s flags as they floated through the Seine River sent a message of camaraderie and commitment. The Olympic Games highlight the values of dedication, perseverance and community – all qualities that are not only at the heart of athletic competition, but also of our business community.

In the early morning hours of July 24, a crowd of thousands gathered in Washington Square Park to celebrate Salt Lake City’s selection as the host of the 2034 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games. The energy and excitement to bring the Olympic Games back was palpable, with a drone display, activities and a live stream of the announcement. We are optimistic about the significant economic impacts that hosting such an event will bring. The influx of visitors, investments in infrastructure and global media attention will provide a substantial boost to our local economy. Government and business leaders are already strategizing on how to make this a success for all. This presents a great opportunity to intertwine sports, culture and commerce, while also bolstering economic growth and development.

The unity and resilience displayed at the Olympics have been truly inspiring. These events bring us together to achieve greatness, and I look forward to seeing that spirit displayed on our home soil soon.
