This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business. Americans spent more than $100 billion last year on our furry friends, fish and other animals we love. Vaughn Maurice, executive director of the Humane Society of Utah, explains how his team can save pet owners money.

The Humane Society of Utah is dedicated to the elimination of pain, fear and suffering in all animals. We provide adoption services for pets, and we also offer low cost, affordable dog and cat vaccines six days a week.
In fact, last year we provided nearly 140,000 basic vaccinations to dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. We maintain affordable prices to ensure everyone can vaccinate their pets.
There is a small profit on vaccines which helps fund much needed services like caring for homeless animals and providing help for pet owner families. We also provide behavior training to make homeless pets adoptable and transport animals out of bad situations. Our adoption fees are reasonable to help get homeless pets into homes as quickly as possible.
