This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. The Kem C. Gardner Institute was launched in 2015 to provide quality data and analysis for government and business leaders. Nick Thirot, the Institute’s manager of public relations, explains what they do to help make Utah stronger.

NICK THIROT

Utah thrives when our leaders have the economic, demographic, and public policy research that helps them make informed decisions. At the University of Utah’s Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, our team is hard at work developing the tools needed to build a prosperous future for ALL Utahns.

The Institute is a vital gathering place for policy leadership. We host regular events that highlight our expertise in areas such as public finance, energy, tourism, survey research, and more. We’ve recently released updated long-term population and employment projections which show Utah increasing from a population of 3.3 million in 2020, to almost 5.5 million in 2060 – data that will aid in planning our state’s future.

We also publish regular reports on Utah’s housing and real estate market, with the most recent data showing a record-breaking pace of permitted construction across the state last year, along with the tightest apartment market in history.
