This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business. March is Women’s History Month, and we’re highlighting female business leaders in Utah, including Lucy Andre, the Chief of Staff for Stadler US, a Swiss company that manufactures environmentally friendly trains here in Salt Lake City. Here’s Lucy Andre with more about Stadler US.

LUCY ANDRE

Public transportation is becoming more and more of a necessity in U.S. cities, particularly ones that are growing quickly. Utah added half a million new residents between 2010 and 2020. That’s an 18.4% growth rate, the fastest in the nation!

As cities grow, so does traffic and pollution which results in highly congested roads, increased traffic accidents, limited parking availability and higher levels of air pollution. Stadler trains are light-weight, energy and fuel efficient, and innovative when it comes to crash safety and ride quality. To combat climate change, we build passenger rail vehicles that are powered by green propulsion systems. Some of the options include fully electric trains, battery electric trains, and even hydrogen-powered trains.

With low or zero emissions, our trains provide critical connections between communities in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. This is how Stadler is transforming the way America moves.

Stadler has invested over $100 million in Utah since arriving in 2015 and now employs over 400 Utahns – people who build some of the world’s best zero and low-emission trains. I’m Derek Miller, and this is Speaking on Business.
