Maren Anderson: Building Career Resilience and Reframing Failure

The need or desire to change your career can feel like a failure. We are taught to never say die, to persevere, persist and never stop swinging for the fences…but not every route we take is destined for success. Sometimes, the only way to find a true career fit or personal fulfillment is to experience […]
Alicia Gleed: The Power of Community: Why We Can’t Thrive Alone

We’ve all heard the phrase, “No man is an island.” For a long time, I brushed it off without much thought. But lately, it’s been resonating with me more than ever. We need people, we need community, to truly thrive.
The word community literally means “a feeling of fellowship with others as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests and goals.” So why is community so important?
As I explored this question, I came across numerous articles emphasizing the vital role community plays in our overall well-being. According to the National Library of Medicine, our sense of belonging to a community is directly linked to our mental and physical health.
Alexx Goeller: Maternity Leave is Not a Vacation

I recently had a beautiful baby boy and took 12 weeks of maternity leave to begin adjusting to this radical life shift. I’m grateful to have had any paid time off (still a rarity in the U.S.), though in many comparable countries, at least six months of paid leave is considered standard. Twelve weeks simply isn’t enough time to truly bond with your newborn or recover from childbirth. On top of the physical recovery, you’re also mentally preparing to be this new person trying to re-enter the working world you once occupied.

Isabelle Caiozzo: You’re Not “Too Much”: Why Passionate Women Make Powerful Leaders

At some point, many of us have been told we’re too something. Too intense. Too emotional. Too loud. Too ambitious. It’s as if the very traits that fuel our success become liabilities the moment they make others uncomfortable.
I love dragonflies. Watching them dance in the evening or sparkle in the sun is magic.
Dragonflies are pure inspiration. They don’t just climb into a chrysalis then emerge a little later, fully formed. These beauties molt, and molt, and molt again, over and over until they’ve reached their best stage. They move from eggs to larva to nymph to teneral. Adults who have reached Emergence still aren’t done. Their first adult flight will be shaky, and cover just a few yards. Their colors are pale and weak.
