New Grade for spring 2025 is a national recognition for commitment to patient safety
Three CommonSpirit hospitals in Utah earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns a letter grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
The CommonSpirit hospitals receiving an ‘A’ grade include:
- Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley, West Jordan, UT
- Holy Cross Hospital – Mountain Point, Lehi, UT
- Holy Cross Hospital – West Valley, West Valley City, UT
“At CommonSpirit Health, we are committed to providing the safest and highest quality care to our patients,” said Timothy Bode, MD, Chief Medical Officer, CommonSpirit Health Mountain Region. “These ‘A’ ratings from The Leapfrog Group reflect the dedication and hard work of our physicians, nurses, and staff in creating a culture of safety throughout our Mountain Region hospitals. We are proud of this achievement and will continue to strive for excellence in patient safety.”
“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I extend my congratulations to these CommonSpirit Mountain Region hospitals, their leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
